Digitalization of simple living is our daily ritual and following the trend has been our daily routine. The dependency on screens and attachment with it has increased our short-term pleasure inversely proportionating with our decreasing attention span. The attraction of being a part of screen has now been a necessity that if not then our subconscious pulls out the not so infamous feeling the fear of missing out also known as FOMO.
Whether it may be a business to creation, today's world is dominated by media. Pros of it is that all the services to reduce time are all in our comfort on fingertips. Digital marketing to content creation to emerging new discoveries are levelling up to reach greater heights. Along with this our voices over violences are being heard and the existence of freedom in all living is the talk of the town. We are as a whole much aware about the absurd reality that happened generations ago and constructive criticism from different perspective has led to a solidified acceptable conclusion. But with this the monopoly of medias are also increasing, having power of numbers, the content displayed over it has filters and politics in itself. The insights it contains, is more depicted to manipulate the consumers if not aware. This vague world of media and dependency on it is both symbiotic and parasitic on user's hand.
The everyday applications, we use, are so well designed that now moreover not by our choice, but just to get this dopamine hit we are compelled to scroll infinitely. We have been more of 'digital slaves' as our addiction is increasing linearly with time and our brain is so used to it. Procrastination is labelled as a modern-day problem cause our short-term pleasure dominates, and the stimulation urges us to get none of our work done instead be lost in the lust of tech. Applications like world widely famous TikTok, various meta platforms and a lot of them are constructed so attractively that it quickly matches the content consumption of any age group, and the loop of infinite scrolling overpowers any individual.
Updating our daily dos of life and checking in the life of celebrities, influencers or our own folks are so common that it is slowly building a negative cycle of comparison, resulting this need to have a perfect life. Whether it happens to be a holiday or a mundane daily routine, everything is often usually buttered up in the media that we happen to misjudge the reality. The content consumption has oriented our life to be in this way or that way, forgetting not able to move on our own way. The scary part of this is we are having a gap with our own self-control. Any kind of content we consume has an authority on our moods, emotions and reaction for remaining part of the day. Our minors are mostly manipulated with the scripted world of medias which have made them to be misguided and build insecurities within themselves. Lacking parental controls, kids and teens nowadays have an easy access to vulnerable topics and adultery sites causing a major problem mentally to physically at such a young age.
Accepting the fact that the chaos within the digital screen has somewhere enlarged our inability to have this laser focus on our main purpose of life, but with this being whether a fiercest foe or a fortunate friend is the concluded relationship with digital screens of a common folk. It has the problem and solution knitted in itself. We often forget that we can take a break from the turmoil of negativity and this compulsion to participate in trends instead invest our time and energy to something meaningful in the same digital space. There should not be a need to have to be present and post what we feel on a daily basis, labeling our happiness on the materialistic sphere of numbers and validations. We are much bigger than this era of screens and self-control is all in our will. Prioritizing mental peace and selflove being sufficient should be a universal message to be conveyed.
At the end, it is all on our hands and how we use it. The tool can shatter us, at the same time, the same tool can carve us for better. This is the world of tech and trends we revolve with, which has made the human civilization easier and tougher accordingly. Nevertheless, the unceasable construction of an empire for comfort and luxury might never have to demoralize the fundamental human ethics and morals with a narrative of "empathy following AI" being handed down to the future dwellers.
